A light breeze, idyllic dunes, seagulls singing, the smell of salt and, of course, the ocean – that is pretty close to my picture perfect summer holidays. Since being packed like sardines in a tin on an Italian beach in midsummer did not match these criteria for recreative holidays, we decided to spend our holidays in a small village on the North Sea. I love the casual but sophisticated maritime-inspired style. Take a few blue and white striped basics, add some red highlights and choose a few maritime accessories. Ready for a picknick in the dunes, a sailing trip or an aperitif on the beach (I prefer a glass of rosé)!

Retro-style lanterns on the apple trees
When I was a child, my parents used to host a garden party each summer. I loved everything about it: The lanterns in the trees, the candles and the flowers on the tables and especially the 80s-style cocktail glasses rimmed with sugar. For whatever reason (probably because of the unpredictable weather in Germany) my parents quit this tradition, but this year I decided to bring it back (and to organise a tent, just in case). Luckily, we didn’t need a tent, the day was really hot and we just had a great time. And the cocktail glasses rimmed with sugar!
Party food – couscous salad, tomatoes with mango and salsa, shrimp and rice salad
Sunlight-reflections in the pool
Summer has finally arrived and I enjoy every second I get to spend outside. It’s also the high season for all open-air festivals. The most famous is the Coachella Festival in Indio, California. The typical Coachella style: Colourful ethnic prints. Fortunately and without flying to California, colourful weaves and prints are showing up everywhere and add an exotic flair to our central European cities. The next film-festival or open-air concert can come!

Something I am really good at is making plans. Plans for checking out the new must-go-to restaurant, trying out the chocolate cake recipe or finally taking out the new stunning dress to an appropriate location. Actually doing it usually is a bit more complicated. Most of the time I find myself kneeling frustrated in a bunch of magazines, loose papers flying around. Where did I put the recipe or restaurant recommendation I was searching for? Well, definitely never where I expected it to be. While thinking of a solution and after consulting some friends and a few bottles of wine, the idea of this blog was born.
So, welcome to silk & soda! A collection of fashion, food, travel, decoration and all the other small things in life that inspire me and make life worthwhile for me. At best, some things might inspire you!
